Abstract/Description:
Historic cities are living palimpsests—shaped by centuries of transformation yet increasingly challenged by climate pressures, tourism, depopulation, and rapid urban change. This session explores how digital augmentation—from advanced documentation and data-driven analysis to immersive visualization and AI—can move beyond preservation toward the revival of ancient urban fabric. Rather than treating heritage as static artifact, the session asks how digital methods can support adaptive reuse, informed design, and thus creating new experiences in the built environment while respecting authenticity and cultural values.
Contributions will examine cutting-edge tools such as 3D modeling, HBIM, digital twins, AI-assisted analysis and AI generation and production, AR/VR interpretation, and community co-creation platforms, highlighting their capacity to bridge past and future.
Case studies and critical reflections will address both opportunities and risks in the age of AI.
