Short CV:
Elena Konstantinidou is an architect and Professor in the Department of Architectural Design at the School of Architecture, National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), and a member of the Laboratory of Architectural Morphology and Theory of Architectural Design, where she has been teaching since 2000. Her academic expertise focuses on Architectural Design and Architectural Heritage. She teaches undergraduate courses on architectural design, morphological analysis, and interventions in historic environments, while also contributing to national and international postgraduate programs. She has also served as a visiting professor at various international institutions.
Her research centers on the recognition, protection, and promotion of architectural heritage and cultural landscapes, with an emphasis on cultural identity, the reinterpretation of historic environments, and the challenges of contemporary design in sensitive contexts, addressing issues such as heritage at risk, contested sites, collective memory, the dynamics of multicultural environments—particularly in the Mediterranean region—as well as urban conflict and critical engagement with sensitive heritage narratives. She also adopts methodological approaches to the analysis and interpretation of historic environments. She has participated in numerous national and European research projects on heritage management, urban regeneration, and sustainable development, often as a research team leader, including work on conservation, reuse of historic structures, and the management of archaeological and cultural sites. Her publications, which include edited volumes, books, book chapters, and articles in scientific journals and conference proceedings, align with these thematic areas.
She is an active contributor to international conferences, has delivered keynote lectures on cultural heritage sustainability, and contemporary urban and spatial challenges, and participates in scientific committees, seminars, and academic events. She has over 30 years of professional experience in architectural design and restoration, with participation and distinctions in national and international competitions. She is a member of international and national professional and scientific organizations.
