Short CV: 

Prof. Francesco Lo Piccolo, BA, MA, PhD, is Full Professor of Urban Planning since 2006, joined the Department of City and Regional Planning (actually Architecture) at the University of Palermo in 1991. He has a wide experience in teaching, training and project management. After his Doctorate of Philosophy in Urban and Regional Planning (1996) at the University of Palermo, he has carried out extensive research on the multi-ethnic city and forms of participation and empowerment of local communities at Cardiff University, at the University of Westminster in London and, as Fulbright visiting scholar (category: professors and lecturers), at the University of New Orleans (with Mickey Lauria) and at the University of California, Berkeley (with Judith Innes). In 1998–99 he was a TMR Marie Curie fellow at Cardiff University, benefiting from the Marie Curie Research Training Grant funded by the Training and Mobility of Researchers (TMR) Programme (European Commission, Directorate General XII) (57,440 ECU, PI).
His current research interests are mostly directed towards social exclusion, ethnicity and diversity, identity and local communities, and public and civic participation, ethics and justice with specific focus on Southern European contexts. Prof Lo Piccolo has led or co-led over 38 research projects in the field of urban planning over the past 20 years, participating in collaborative research and scholarship with universities and research centres across Europe and the US.
