Urban environment contributes to climate change mostly in relation to the energy consumed within building complexes rather than through its microclimate. In specific, bioclimatic rehabilitations in open urban spaces, mainly, influence the microclimate of a city but not the global climate trends. A significant research effort is evident to understand the influence of global warming and urban climate conditions in cities’ energy consumption. Therefore, target of the present special session is to size and parameterize the impact of the urban climatic conditions improvement or deterioration to the energy performance of buildings. Topics to be presented in the special session should address and propose:
- Climatic adaptation of the built building stock and new constructions
- Sizing of specific bioclimatic techniques and practices to building energy consumption
- Effective open spaces’ bioclimatic rehabilitations to buildings’ energy efficiency
- Parameterization of surface temperatures against to building energy performance
- Methods to estimate global warming influence to urban climate and energy consumption
- Smart techniques and methodologies to predict the energy consumption at city scale in relation to urban climate reformation
- Necessary renovations that will support the roadmap towards buildings’ climatic adaptation
- Building climatic adaptation impacts to thermal comfort conditions and indoor air quality and propose methods of improvement
- Adaptation technologies to assist zero energy concept and smart grids operation
