Short CV:

Dimitra Babalis is Associate Professor in Urban Planning and Design at the Department of Architecture, University of Florence, and an Architect-Engineer. She is an invited Visiting Professor at various European Universities. She has been a pioneer for innovative teaching and research and has established an international research profile as Coordinator and Chair of the Erasmus Intensive Programmes on “Bioclimatic Design and Urban Regeneration”; “ECOPOLIS. Sustainable Planning and Design Principles”; “CHRONOCITY. The Scale of the Sustainable Change”. She has been involved as a team leader in a number of European research projects and, currently, she is involving in an on-going H2020-MSCA-RISE Project on “SOS-Climate Waterfront”.

She is the Founder and Chair of INTEGRO UAD (International Group on Urban and Architecture Design), which involves a number of academics to explore critical multidisciplinary issues on urban change.

Her research has focused on urban transformation and sustainable masterplanning; regeneration and reuse of industrial heritage in making new urban landscapes; design and management of urban space with specific interests on sustainable waterfront urban space and smart micro-urban space within the historic environment; climate change dynamics and complexities of urban design. E’ author of a number of scientific publications, author and co-author of books. She is the Series Editor of “Cities,Desig&Sustainability. The New Series”. She is member of several international scientific associations, organisations and committees such as UDG-Urban Design Group; ICOMOS Italia and ICOMOS Hellenic - International Council on Monuments and Sites, ICOMOS/CIVVIH -The International Committee on Historic Towns and Villages; TICCIH - The International Committee for the Conservation of the Industrial Heritage. She was awarded a prize by the Italian Ministry of Culture, for Research Excellence on Industrial Archeology. .
