Title: Origin of metropolises and transformations of architecture in the 21st Century
Description: What is the meaning of «city» word today? How the form of modern city developed? The metropolis is a city? What is the importance of the form of individual architectural construction in the metropolis?
Τhis session examines the relationship of the form of the metropolis and form of architecture, the «field of architecture» into the city, the meaning of architecture in the metropolis. What is today the appropriate form of the metropolis so as to meet the needs of modern life? How can this form be preserved but adapted to the needs of a living organism such as a city? There is continuity between the shape of the metropolis and form of architecture? For modern architecture this is important or irrelevant? The claim of «architecture as autonomy» is accepted into urban organism, as release of the architecture of the city from the form of the city?
And yet: the «ideal form» of modern architecture requires and/or respond to an «ideal form» of the city? Modern metropolis may have an «ideal form» to be an «ideal city»? In an «imperfect city» which is the role of the individual architectural object? Can the form of architecture indicate or determine the form of the city?
Finally, perhaps the ideal framework of modern architecture is the modern metropolis as seems to be the historic city for pre-modern architecture? A harmonious relationship between the shape of the historic city and the shape of the so-called modern / contemporary architecture is possible?
